MOE Kindergarten @ Blangah Rise - "One Of A Kind"

In the month of May, MOE Kindergarten @ Blangah Rise embarked on the Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) project titled, “One of a Kind”. The project aimed to inculcate the virtue of kindness and build character in the children.

Ms Candice explaining the significance of the Start Small Dream Big project to the children.

The children first learned that the SSDB project is initiated to encourage them to be creative problem-solvers and to tap on their unique strengths to help the people around them. The virtue of kindness was introduced through a series of activities such as sharing of news articles, video clips and a puppet show performed by the Singapore Kindness Movement!

The children were enjoying the puppet show put up by Singapore Kindness Movement.

To encourage bilingualism, the project was conducted in both English and the Mother Tongue Languages (MTL i.e. Chinese language, Malay language and Tamil language). Using picture cards and stories, the MTL teachers discussed ways in which the children could display kindness within their families. The English Language (EL) teachers then brainstormed with the children ways in which they could show kindness in the Kindergarten.

The MTL teachers were explaining about kindness through the use of videos, articles and photographs.

Kifaayat and Nadaana were dramatising different ways of showing kindness.

Both parents and teachers captured the children displaying different acts of kindness on camera and uploaded them onto an online portal. Through this, the children were encouraged to keep up with their kind deeds!

In school, Hannah and Ella showed kindness by packing the art materials.

Vagish showed kindness at home by helping to sweep the floor.

Zixi showed kindness by supporting Alya whilst she was balancing on the caterpillar at the Kindergarten’s outdoor play area.

Aarkash showed kindness by helping his parents with the household chores.

Besides showing kindness at home and in school, the children’s learning was also extended to the community. The K1 children had the opportunity to visit SilverAce Senior Activity Centre to engage in activities with the elderly. They helped to serve snacks to the seniors and guided them in completing a craft activity.

The K1 children demonstrated kindness through different activities with the seniors.

The K2 children visited the Telok Blangah Heights neighbourhood and distributed handmade cards to members of the public to promote kindness in the community. The children were provided with opportunities to practise communicating in English and in their Mother Tongue Language too.

To wrap up the project, the children wrote their reflections on the SSDB stars and reflection journals. They learned to play a part in fostering a culture of kindness in the Kindergarten, at home, and in the community.

Reflections done by the K1 children.
