“Little Hands Saving Earth” Classroom Clean-up

We talk about Saving Earth and keeping our environment clean. Of course, it starts from our own classroom. How can we say we want to make Earth clean again when we can hardly tidy our own space?

On 8 May 2019, we cleaned our classroom. We discussed the areas in the classroom that needed to be cleaned or tidied and children volunteered their roles.

The children quickly get on to their job. They moved to their station and used the respective tools to help them clean better. Some were in charge of tidying the pencil tray while others cleaned the shelves.

Our little Cleaners hard at work.

At the end of the day, we discussed on what we have done. Children realised the classroom can be a little messy at times. But they enjoyed the process of cleaning up afterall. As simple as the job may sound, I asked the children to think about the cleaners who have to do this cleaning everyday even when they did not cause the mess. That was the message I want them to bring back home.

It takes a village to produce this amount of waste and cause a mess; it also takes a village to clean up the mess and return the space/environment to the original state.

It all starts with me.

And the children can’t wait to do the upcoming neighbourhood clean-up!
