Stories of Kindness and Bravery

“In the midst of speaking to our children about the seriousness of the medical issues arising from the Covid-19 virus, we felt that it was important to share heartwarming stories of grace and courage. For example, stories about the healthcare workers who nurses the unwell, the sanitation workers who go about their jobs cleaning up public areas, the taxi drivers who deliver food to the needy and the Scoot crew who volunteered to bring Singaporeans back from Wuhan. Through sharing these stories, we wanted to bring the children’s attention to the goodness of the human spirit in times of adversity.

The children really wanted to thank these heroes who have been quietly going about their jobs which contributed to the well-being and safety of Singaporeans. They felt that their work should be acknowledged.

Thank You Cards For The Healthcare Workers

First, the children made cards for the healthcare workers. Besides admiring the work of the doctors and nurses, they also empathize with their children and families. They felt that their love and support for their “doctors and nurses mummies and daddies” gave them strength to go about their jobs. The cards were mailed to NCID. We hope all the healthcare workers who worked tirelessly to take care of the patients received the appreciation and well wishes from us.

Thank You Artwork For The Scoot Crew

The children also expressed that they wanted to illustrate their gratefulness and appreciation to the pilots and cabin crew, who had volunteered to bring Singaporeans home from Wuhan during the outbreak, for their bravery and kindness. It must have been daunting and not an easy decision, yet, the crew put others before themselves and brought the loved ones of Singaporeans home. The artwork was delivered to Scoot by one of our parents. We hope the crew got the message and know how much their actions have touched our hearts.

“感恩” in Mandarin is a phrase which we used in these discussions. We hope the children will cherish the messages and values from these positive stories that emerge from a stressful time like this. The class of K2 Eagles and everyone else here from EtonHouse 223@Mountbatten would like to say thank you to all these heroes for their acts of kindness. You have touched our hearts.— Chen Jingyan, Mandarin Teacher, K2 Eagles, 223 Mountbatten, Eton House Preschool
