SSDB Service Learning at St. Luke Elder care

Our Kindergarten 1 and 2 visited the elderly at the St. Luke Elder care.

This project is a continuation of our previous gardening project which rationale was for children to learn to identify the gems amongts the weeds and be caring towards the existing and future gardens . In tie with service learning, we collaborated with NParks expertise to learn basic gardening skills and created service opportunity for our children to share the skills with the elderly in St. Luke.

Before the visit to St. Luke

The K1 and K2 children made plantpots for Mints by using recycle materials -plastic milk carton. We decorated it into a cute rat design using old buttons and used black construction papers.

On the Day of visit to St. Luke

The K1 and K2 children assisted the elderly to mix the soil and pot the Mints into the rat plastic plantpot by using chopsticks.  Children were able to help and guide the elderly gently and politely. The elderly were actively involved in the activity too.

Conclusion

In a nutshell, the values of caring and sharing, contributing knowledge to the society were instill in our children through this service learning journey. “No one can do everything but everyone can do something”
