Spreading Kindness One Step at a Time by ELFA Preschool, Serangoon

For the “Start Small Dream Big” Project, the children of ELFA Preschool at Serangoon planned for a meaningful event, “Family Carnival” to raise funds for the Arc Children’s Centre on 16 June 2017.

To ignite the spark of entrepreneurial spirit in them, they were given the opportunity to work together, using their creative skills to utilise different recycled materials in creating crafts, eg drums, bowls, photo frame and many more to increase craft sales. They also set up different DIY stalls in which they took up various roles of facilitators, promoters and cashier at the Carnival. All with the aim to generate more funds.

The fund-raising event was held at the premises of the Centre and different stalls were set up. The junior sales promoters marketed the products to parents who attended the event, with the earnings deposited into a donation box by the cashiers. Parents also volunteered to “adopt-a-booth”, either a food booth or a photo booth, to make the event more meaningful.

The project provided the children with the opportunity to put their knowledge and skills to use. They learnt teamwork, discovered the value of money, and also learnt that time and effort must be put in to ensure the success of an endeavour. They also recognized that kindness could be shown in their own simple ways, and even through a fundraising event to help children with terminal illnesses. The whole Centre, children and parents showed their support for the event, and their contributions indeed benefited the society.

Parents and children smiled widely as they bonded through the activities.

Parents lent a helping hand as they prepared food booth for the day!
