This year, our school, PCF Sparkletots Preschool @ Tampines East Blk 261 (KN) is supporting the President’s Challenge and we have decided to nominate Singapore National Paralympic Council (SNPC) - as our beneficiary.
We hope that this project will not only allow our children to be aware that there are people with special needs such as the physically handicapped in society but will also foster an understanding, acceptance and respect for these individuals through participating in a series of challenges and help raise funds to contribute to SNPC’s governance of disability sports.
Other than our 143 lil’ ones in school, we have also garnered support from our Alumni in this year’s event!
We had our Launch Party on 10 May 2019.
Over 90 family members turned up and parents watched a video that SNPC compiled of the different para-athletes and their resilience and determination while participating in the variety of sports.
It was quite an emotional moment as we could see the determination and it was evident that these athletes put in much hard work to get to where they are. That further reinforced our mission to be able to contribute in giving them equal opportunities in realizing their fullest potential.
To drive home the message, we also had the parents tape down the thumbs of their dominant hands, so that they will be able to understand how it feels when they are not able to do something as well when the ability is compromised by a handicap and how they will need to persevere. However, halfway through, most parents gave up and removed the tape.
At the end of the Launch, parents and children were more aware of what their roles were and we are looking forward to the other 3 main parts of our ParaSports Challenge @ 261 Project.
Part 1: Awareness Education
Part 2: Quilt Wall of Love
Part 3: ParaSports Challenge @ 261
