Para-Sports Try Out

The children tried out two sports which are played in the Paralympics -Goalball and Boccia.

Goalball is a team sport designed specifically for athletes with a vision impairment. Participants compete in teams of three, and try to throw a ball that has bells embedded in it into the opponent’s goal.

Children reflected on their experience playing goalball and noted it was thrilling yet nerve-wrecking. They shared it was not easy relying on their sense of hearing to determine the location of the ball. However, they were excited when they finally persevered to score goals!

Boccia is a precision ball sport, similar to bocce, and related to bowls and pétanque. The sport is contested at local, national and international levels, by athletes with severe physical disabilities. It was originally designed to be played by people with cerebral palsy but now includes athletes with severe disabilities affecting motor skills.

Children reflected on the experience playing boccia and shared it was a relatively easy sport. They enjoyed throwing the balls towards the jack with increasing aim and precision.

After the try out, children agreed unanimously that they would like to teach these two sports - Goalball and Boccia to the Nursery Two and Kindergarten One children for the upcoming Para-Sports Day!
