National Day Celebration with Residents from NTUC Health Nursing Home (Jurong West) - MOE Kindergarten@Westwood

The Racial Harmony celebration really left a mark on the children as they showed greater appreciation for their grandparents afterwards! With full hearts, MK@WW extended this love and appreciation to the Residents at the NTUC Health Nursing Home (Jurong West) through a donation drive and the celebrating of National Day with them at the Home.

On 13th August 2019, a group of teachers and 24 children set off for the Home with kind donations in hand!

In a short amount of time, the school saw the generosity of the children and their families as bags after bags of kind donations are brought to school! A very big thank you to all!

The 24 children who represented the school for the visit were our very own MK@Westwood Value Ambassadors 2019 who were specially selected for this event! They were chosen by fellow peers and teachers for their outstanding dispositions in school. They were exemplary in showing respect and being honest to others as well as displaying perseverance and confidence in completing tasks.

Look at them proudly wearing their MK@WW’s Value Ambassador badge and smiles on their face!

Off we go! Grandmothers and grandfathers… here we come!

A short drive from school and the teachers and children arrived at the Home! As this visit might be the first of its kind for some of the children, some of them were nervous to meet the Residents. The children warmed themselves up with some snacks!

It was time… the children finally get to meet the Residents in person!

Nervous smiles filled the children’s faces but we were all pleasantly surprise by the very warm welcome given by the friendly Grandmothers and Grandfathers. Good morning everyone!

Exciting activities were lined up for the children and the Residents like Sing-and-Dance along, “Bingo” Game and “Pass the Parcel” Game and more!

In conjuction of National Day, the children performed various National Day songs for the Residents! Look at them go!

A game of “Charades” was played where children had to act out specific actions and the Grandmothers and Grandfathers had to guess the correct actions. Everyone had a fun time!

The highlight of the Visit was definitely the Sing-and-Dance along! Everyone had fun singing and dancing along the old tunes of Singapore - the Residents’ favourite!

The visit ended with the children’s and Residents’ laughters as they smile and talk to each other, showing the bond they created over a short time. This visit is definitely one to remember, what a memorable experience! We hope to see you again soon, Grandmothers and Grandfathers!

Our journey of SSDB will soon come to an exciting end… with the highlight of this project, a trip to the Bicentennial Experience @ Fort Canning on 3rd September 2019!
