Keep it clean, Keep it Green: Beach clean up

  • Prior to the children’s visit to the beach, they were informed of the dos and don’ts to keep this public space clean and convenient for all users. They were also taught of the importance of keeping the area clean as it will have an impact on the sea creatures.

  • The N2-K2 children had a picnic and played some games conducted by the teachers at the Changi Beach on the 23rd July 2019.

  • After having some fun, the children put on their gloves to clean up the premises used and the beach area. Teachers revisited the types of litters they should pick up and avoid unknown/sharp objects, animals carcasses and defecate matter. They also highlighted that one should take ownership of his/her own litters so that the beach will not be contaminated. In addition, the sea creatures lives and habitat will not be harmed too as they might have mistook the litters as their food and consume them.

  • The children also shared that they can remind each other to clean up after themselves and pick up litters around them to play their part.

  • They collected litters such as plastic bottles, glass bottles, shoes (soles), plastic cups and bottle caps. They shared that these litters should be disposed at the nearby bin. Teachers also shared that some of them can be cleaned and reused if one doesn’t want to dispose them

Hey, we used our recycled bottles to do crafts in school right? We can help to save the environment that way. But why are there so many bottles here? - A K1 boy

“Yay, we did it! Look at the amount of rubbish collected within an hour”.

Pollution of the air or of the land all ultimately ends up in the sea - Jacques Cousteau

The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it - Robert Swan

Our key take away: It doesn’t stop here. Remember to be responsible and caring towards the environment and other living things. Take ownership of our own rubbish to play our part. Let’s keep it clean and green!
