Green Day Carnival

This year the Cherians from Cherie Hearts @ Upper Thomson embarked on a “Green” project for SSDB initiative. The project cumulated with our Green Day Carnival. The Green project was centred on Healthy Eating and growing greens. A series of activities were conducted as part of the whole project. We started with the HPB Roving Carnival which was held in the school. The carnival helped children to understand the concept of healthy eating and healthy habits in a fun and interactive way.

Following that, a farm visit was organised to Quan Fa Organic farm to learn about how vegetables are planted and grown organically. As organic vegetables would be one of the items sold during our carnival, the visit helped the children understand the process of how vegetables are planted, cared, harvested and finally sold.

Next, the children, with the help from a parent volunteer, made crafts for decoration on herb/decoration plants that were grown and were sold during the carnival. The craft were made using basic materials like flour, salt and water. This was later shaped and decorated by them.

Finally, on the day of the carnival many stalls of healthy food, vegetables and games were setup -and manned by teachers and children. Many of the parents, family and friends turned up for the event and generously contributed to the project. The proceeds from the sales on that day will go to support WINGS Counselling Centre.

Overall, children learnt not only the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle but also how one small act can impact the lives of those who are less fortunate.
