Episode 2: Artists in Action

May 2019

Let’s show our art from our hearts!

The team incorporated the book reading activities from the school’s program, ‘Terrific Thursday’ into the ‘Start Small Dream Big’ journey. The children delved into stories by Eric Carle, a well-known children’s author and illustrator.

In the month of May, the featured story ‘The Mixed-Up Chameleon’ by Eric Carle reminded the children that being themselves was the best as long as they did their best. This resonated with the ‘Start Small Dream Big’ message that ‘No one can do everything, but everyone can do something’. The children reviewed the illustrations and explored the colours used by Eric Carle in the book. They discussed how they could use the colours to create something helpful and worthwhile with their abilities.

The Kindergarten One children played their part by creating an artwork as a cause to help the group of people that Ms Rachel shared about. In the classroom, the children created shades with various colours and tried out different art techniques, such as dot painting, tape resist and cubism, in their art explorations. The children also used different elements of art (colours, shapes, lines) to create artworks to their best ability, through the service-learning objective of playing their part and giving their very best.
