Donation Drive

The best way to declutter items while doing good is through participating in donation drives. Giving others doesn’t just benefit the recepient of the items or goods, it also leaves a wonderful feeling to the giver.

As part of the K1 and K2 classes’ initiative to encourage others to recycle, we have planned to organise a centre-wide donation drive and extend this drive to estatates around the neighbourhood.

To kickstart the program, we collaborated with The Salvation Army organization to bring awareness to the children. Ms Pamela Rodrigues, the Salvation Army representative presented the importance of recycling to the children and how their donations can benefit the underprivileged or people who were struck by calamities.

After the talk, the children were then invited to illustrate their understanding of the concept of 3R’s (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) and how they can apply it to their everyday lives on a paper. We decided to use their drawing to design the flyers to be distributed to the parents and to the members of Damai community.

After Ms . Lowella and Ms. Varsha incorporated their drawings into posters and flyers, the K1 and K2 classes spent a morning distributing flyers to residents of blocks 615B and 615C.It was heartwarming to see the residents and parents bringing over their recycle items such as clothes, newspapers, and old magazines to the centre as response to the drive.

The children were surprised with the overwhelming response of the donations. They packed the clothes and other items into boxes which were then collected by volunteers from The Salvation Army.

In order to recognise children’s effort, they were awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by The Salvation Army. Through this project, children realised that they are never too young to contribute to the community.
