“Little Hands Saving Earth” Neighbourhood Clean-up

It was time.

On 10 May 2019, the children were all geared up to head outside and battle it out with the neighbourhood litters.

We put on our bright orange bucket hats, slid our tiny hands into the gloves and marched our way to our “backyard”.

After some debriefing on safety and rules, the children went ahead on their task, picking up things that don’t belong to the environment - LITTERS.

You’ll be amazed with the kind of things we find as we went for litter hunt. Strange things at weird places.

Children questioned

“Teacher, why do people throw this here?”

We wonder too.

Children braved the heat and the sun, collected litters from the grass, the bushes, under the seats, along the drain. With either their gloves or tongs in their hand, they picked up things that are damaging to our environment.

At the end of the day, children were all worn out. It is pretty hard to imagine the amount of work cleaners do on a daily basis. We had almost 25 pairs of hands and we were all tired after the clean-up, let alone the cleaners.

It was a fruitful experience for the children as we cleaned up the neighbourhood. This is a place where we walk about almost everyday and it is important we maintain it’s cleanliness.

We hope that in future, the people will think twice before littering anywhere that’s convenient for them.

Maintaining the public cleanliness is a shared responsibility.
