"Our Charity Carnival" by The Little Skool-House On-the-Green

On the 28th of July 2017, our Kindergarten 2 students from LSH (On-the-Green) organised a fundraising carnival to help the less fortunate. The children spent the first few weeks in class discussing what they understood from the term “less fortunate” and how they would like to help them.

The children eventually agreed to organise a fundraising carnival, and the preparations soon began in the month of June, in line with their Builder’s Programme (project month). Children from K2 Edelweiss took charge of preparing the carnival games and crafts whereas K2 Azalea decided to take charge of the food.

A book donation drive was also held where children and parents from all classes brought in second hand or unused books from home to be sold during the carnival as well. It received an overwhelming response from families who wished to contribute to this meaningful project. Scholastic Asia also played a part as our partner in this project by supplying more books for the donation drive.

After a month of preparing for the carnival, our K2s were rearing to go! They worked in small groups, each mending one of the food or game stalls. Some of the food they had prepared included rainbow sandwiches, fruit kebabs and pizzas whereas some of the games they had created using recycled materials included “Feed the Clown”, “Ring Toss” and “Throwing Dice”. Parents and children from the centre were invited to the carnival and enjoyed themselves thoroughly.

children as they learned entrepreneurial skills, such as responsibility, communication with others and problem-solving.

Indeed, it was a thrilling yet fulfilling journey for the children as they had fun while raising funds!
