"Kindness To Everyone Carvnival" at Kinderland Preschool @ Woodlands Mart

This year, children from Kinderland Woodlands Mart embarked on a learning journey of self-discovery through expressing kindness in many forms. The children learnt about the importance of being kind towards the people around them and their environment.

To kick-start the project, the children engaged in role-plays with their friends and learnt to express situations in many relatable real-life scenarios. The children worked in groups and brainstormed ideas on ways they can inculcate kindness in their daily lives and decided to focus their project on expressing kindness to people around them.

Following that, the school organized its first outdoor Parents’ Day outing @ Marina Barrage, where families gathered and bonded with one another, engaging and participating in fun activities under the sun together. Through this activity, the children were able to understand the importance of being kind to their families and be thankful of the things that they are blessed with. Back in school, the teachers discussed with the children about the experiences they had with their families. The children were encouraged to think of the less fortunate families and how they could show their kindness towards them.

The children were inspired to organize the ‘Kindness to Everyone Carnival’ where they learnt about showing kindness through the use of entrepreneurship skills as they raised funds for a good cause by selling second-hand items and selling of services. The children went through series of discussions and brainstorming sessions with their friends to think of booths to set-up and items that they would be selling. With the teachers’ facilitation, they successfully set up four booths namely, Food & Drinks Booth, Merchandise Booth, Games Booth and Art & Craft Booth. The funds raised from the carnival will be donated to Lions Befrienders Singapore.

In preparation for the carnival, the children worked cooperatively to create jelly from scratch, paste the SSDB stickers on their items and coloured signages to decorate their booths. The children also took responsibility in familiarizing themselves with their roles and understood the importance of working together to make their carnival successful.

This carnival serves as a great opportunity for children to enhance their learning experience as they attained first-hand experience and knowledge on the way to think, work and manage a business like little entrepreneurs. The carnival has provided an excellent social experience for children through ownership and by extending their kindness to different families.

This carnival was a huge success for the children. They felt a great sense of accomplishment and were happy to do their part in showing kindness towards the less fortunate and everyone else around them.
