Literacy and Speech & Drama
PCF Pasir Ris West Blk 517 provides a holistic development which provides a lot of hands-on work for the students. The centre is consistently sourcing for more innovation for the benefit of the students. The centre teaches the students Phonics, which allows the students to read better. Interactions for the students are also emphasized in Speech & Drama. The students are required to do presentations during Speech & Drama. This helps to build up the student's confidence in presenting themselves in future. Speech & Drama also helps the students in expressing their feelings better.
PCF Pasir Ris West Blk 517 is also starting to focus on Arts program during curriculum time where the students learn about the elements of Art. This helps the students to observe the outside environment better based on the things that they learn. Therefore, the students are able to engage in their own individual learning outside, which better prepares them for the future.
Parent Support Group
The Parent Support Group (PSG) in PCF Pasir Ris West Blk 517 is strong. Other that convenience, parents feel secure knowing about the system in the centre. Parents are very involved in their children's homework and frequent visits are made to help with school activities such as rehearsals for the K2 graduation concert. "When you're outside the centre, you judge. But when you're inside, it's a different perspective once we understand the things that are done here," said Wahidah Began, a parent from the centre. The centre builds a strong rapport with parents such that parents trust the teachers that their children are well taken care of. "Parents should come and see for themselves that PCF centres are very high in standards and they definitely cover the basics to a high extent," said Ms Began. "The child makes the school, and of course, parents involvement is also very important," said Ms Began, Ms Lee Li Peng, and Ms Irene Ooi, parents in PSG.
SCOPE Program & Sharing Sessions
Scope Program is catered to students who are slower in learning. PCF Pasir Ris West Blk 517 aims in helping every individual strive in their learning. Sharing sessions are also conducted in the centre. For example, teachers from Suzhou came to visit and shared practices with teachers in the centre. The teachers will then be able to use the same practices and cater it to the students, providing the students fun and new things to learn.
