The story behind the Pamphlet

The kindergarten 2 classes started the project with a class discussion on what they know about water. The discussion was documented through the KWL chart.

The children gave their input on what they know about water and what they want to learn about water. They brainstorm what water is used for, how water is used at home, plants and animals need water in order to live, water is important for the fruit trees and vegetable to grow and how we can save water. They also wanted to know where rainwater comes from.

After the discussion, teachers asked the children to make illustrations on what they know about water and they gave their ideas on what they wanted to draw. They made beautiful drawings of animal drinking water, how water is being used in homes and how plants need water and they shared their drawings.

To answer the children question on how rain come about, we watch a video on the water cycle. The children learnt about the four stages that made up the water cycle; evaporation, condensation, precipitation and collection. We had a mini experiment on the water cycle.

The children watched how evaporation and condensation happen when hot boiling water rises and form water vapour. They shared about where they can find bodies of water; ocean, sea, rivers, lake, dam, reservoirs and groundwater. The children made a drawing on the water cycle and shared. To add aesthetics the children did a dramatization of the water cycle by using headbands of the sun, water droplets, rain clouds and raindrops which they made.

The class poster is the culminating activity for the water project. The children put together their ideas and use crepe paper to make raindrops and collage of the earth. They draw four raindrops and fill in each raindrop with an animal, sea creature, tree and people to send the message that living things need water to live and water is a precious resource and the need for us to conserve.
