The Second Visit of the ‘Karung Guni Man’!

Uncle Teong, the ‘Karung Guni Man’ came on Friday, 28 July 2017. It was his second visit to the school. The K1 Peace 2 class children were anticipating his arrival. When they caught sight of him, they greeted him with eagerness. He was very happy to see them too. Uncle Teong was also elated to see so much newspapers being collected. They were all stacked up high!

He explained to the children that the price of the newspapers had gone up. The total weight of the newspapers was 178kg and they were sold at the rate of 15 cents per kg. The amount collected was $26.70. The children clapped and cheered.

The children learnt about the value of money from Uncle Teong. He asked them to count $26.70 with him. It was a wonderful learning journey in a real setting!

He took the children to see his lorry. The children watched him and his wife, Auntie Teong stacking the newspapers into neat piles. He showed them his canvas and told them that he had to cover his newspapers in the event if it rains.

The children realised that the karung guni man was strong when they saw how he lifted up the heavy piles of newspaper and loaded them onto the back of his lorry. They witnessed the cooperation of the husband and wife team. They saw that it was a tough job that required the karung guni man to work under all kinds of weather! All the little ones admired Uncle Teong and his wife! Hip! Hip! Hurray to our karung guni man!
