All about pollution! 🏞️💨🌊

Subsequently, in the following months, the K2 care ambassadors dived into the topic, ‘Pollution’, namely water pollution, air pollution and land pollution, through the engagement of various hands-on and interactive environmental activities.

First and foremost, they enthusiastically embarked on a quest around their neighbourhood to pick up litters. Along the way, they would share with one another how land pollution is anything that damages or contaminates the land, will hurt animals and their habitats, destroys the beauty of nature etc.

Secondly, in corporation with National Parks Board’s Biodiversity Week for Schools, they were introduced to water pollution through the story of ‘Playtime with Hershie the Hermit Crab - A Crab, a Shell, and a little Help’. Through this story and its activity book, they have effectively gained valuable knowledge. For example, plastic bags and bottles that are dumped on the beach (which eventually, will get washed away into the ocean) can choke and kill sea creatures. Upon realising that their little act can possibly bring negative impacts onto the sea animals, they then felt empowered to make a change ❤️. For instance, some said that they will spread this information with others for them to be more conscious of their behaviours.

Third of all, to make learning even more relatable for them, we decided to incorporate our current issue session along with air pollution since we have chanced upon an article about haze. After the children achieved some context about it, they then proceeded to form a concise mind map about it which offered them the opportunity to elaborate more about their prior knowledge, experiences etc, notably about the ways in which they can adopt to perfecting the air and preventive methods that they can use to protect themselves from breathing in polluted air.

Overall, the children had such a wonderful, pleasant yet fulfilling learning experience about pollution 😊.
