A Little Act Goes A Long Way - My First Skool@Blk 54 Chin Swee Road

Our centre has always been committed to sustainability, and this was evident in the use of recycled materials during activities and lessons of N2 Honesty 1 & 2 here at MyFirstSkool@Chin Swee. The children are already acquainted with what can be recycled and they are able to sort various materials into the different categories. This is further reinforced during the Term 2 Chinese Inquiry Project on Plastic as children get to learn about the sustainable use of plastic and make different items out of it such as a kite.

Not only that, to touch base with parents at home, our take-home activity would always involve the use of recycled materials. Children, with their parents, would create their favourite trucks out of various recycled materials such as cardboard, plastic bottles and caps. As part of the children’s exploration of plants and as part of our visit to Yili Farm for our Term 2 Inquiry Project and Field Trip, children made their recycled plant pot to bring to the farm and potted their kai lan seedling using these pots. Furthermore, as our topic was on food in Term 3 and we explored the story of The Gingerbread Man, children with their parents imagined the house of which the Gingerbread Man lived in and made beautiful houses out of cardboard and art materials.

The children also stayed committed to sustainability during Aesthetics Week and Family Day whereby only recycled materials such as toilet paper rolls, ice cream sticks, boxes were used in the creation of these items.

The children truly immersed themselves in building the awareness of sustainability and practise it at home and in school! We are so proud of you and that you have contributed to the Start Small Dream Big initiative!
